House Democrats Continue To Push Their Radical Abortion on Demand Until Birth Legislation

Today, Speaker Pelosi will bring up for a vote House Democrats’ radical “Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act” (also known as the “Women’s Health Protection Act”) and the “Ensuring Access to Abortion Act.” Both bills go much further than codifying Roe v. Wade and would legalize abortion for all nine months of pregnancy across the country while undermining the health and safety of women. Yesterday, Speaker Pelosi confirmed Democrats’ radical agenda by saying abortion is “core to who we are. It’s about freedom...” BUT 80% of Americans believe late-term abortion should be illegal. DEMOCRATS’ ABORTION ON DEMAND UNTIL BIRTH ACT (Courtesy of House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans):

  • The Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act is extreme. It would create a national standard to allow for abortions of unborn children for any reason and at any stage of pregnancy up until birth.
  • The American people do not support abortions with no limits. 80% ofAmericans say abortion should be illegal in the third trimester.
  • The Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act allows for discriminatory abortions on the basis of a baby’s sex, race, and disability.
  • It would override pro-life laws and prohibit states from enacting legislation that protects unborn children, such as protections for babies with Down syndrome and other disabilities.
  • It removes commonsense protections for women and children. For example, the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act would not allow states to enact laws to ensure parental involvement for minors or laws to protect women from coercion.
  • This bill includes vague language that could also weaken conscience protections for medical professionals, and limit their right to refuse to participate in an abortion.
  • On September 24, 2021, nearly every Democrat in the House voted on an almost identical bill (H.R. 3755) for abortion on demand until birth.
DEMOCRATS’ ENSURING ACCESS TO ABORTION ACT (Courtesy of House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans):
  • Does nothing to explicitly prevent an unrelated adult or sexual abuser from taking a minor out-of-state for an abortion.
  • Undermines mandatory reporting laws in every state that require health professionals, social workers, and schools to report instances of child abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect as that could be seen as delaying or hindering access to an abortion.
  • Undermines the ability of states to hold sexual abusers accountable.
  • Undermines parental consent for minors to travel across state lines. Parents can be targeted by the federal government and sued for wanting to help their child and asking them to delay traveling out- of-state to get an abortion.
  • Undermines the health and safety of women by overriding the majority of states that have determined it is safest for doctors to prescribe pills for a chemical abortion. By eliminating medical supervision, this puts women and minors at increased risk if they need care for severe bleeding, infection, or surgical intervention.
  • Stops states from preventing abortion pill mills and gives human traffickers and abusers more direct access to chemical abortions in all 50 states.
MAKE NO MISTAKE: The Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade will save COUNTLESS innocent lives, but House Republicans must continue to fight against Far-Left Democrats' taxpayer funded abortion on demand until birth agenda.
