The Border Crisis: Kamala Misses the Border by 2,000 Miles

It has been 75 days since President Biden tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with overseeing the crisis happening along the United States’ southern border. Not only has Harris failed to schedule a trip to the southern border, she has now travelled to Guatemala, 2,000 miles past our southern border, without stopping to see the crisis she is “managing” firsthand.

The Biden administration’s claim that Harris is addressing the “root causes” of the border crisis by visiting Guatemala and Mexico is FALSE. Both Guatemala’s President and Mexico’s President have rightfully pointed the blame where it belongs, with the Biden administration.

  • On Sunday, Guatemala President Alejandro Giammattei blamed the Biden Administration’s welcoming message to migrants for the surge at the U.S. southern border.
  • In March, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador blamed President Biden for the migrant surge, arguing the “expectations” he set left migrants with the perception that they would be let in the United States.

The numbers back them up:

  • In April, 2021, 178,622 individuals were apprehended at the southern border by the US. Customs and Border Protection (USBP). That’s nearly 6,000 a day. In April 2020, that number was 17,108. That is a 947% INCREASE.
  • This year USBP has encountered 531,533 people attempting to enter the country illegally at the southern border. That is a 23% INCREASE from 2020.

The Biden administration has worked to open the southern border, not secure it. They stopped building the wall, brought back Catch and Release, and got rid of the Remain in Mexico policy.
