In May, New York City began to convert public school gymnasiums into housing for illegal immigrants in response to the border crisis.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams noted that the use of the schools was “drastic” and claimed the schools would only be used for short periods, but also insisted the city was out of options.
Sheltering aliens who are not admitted to the United States in school facilities will divert educational resources from children already suffering from historic learning loss.
Turning schools into housing centers for aliens compromises schools’ duty to educate enrolled children and keep them safe.
Hosting aliens on school campuses poses a significant safety risk to school children and compromises schools’ ability to secure their own campus.
Using school gymnasiums as housing for aliens may impede children’s access to safe recreation and physical education, may force children to spend their entire school day with little exercise, and may disrupt the ordinary routines of the school day.
The Biden Administration has created these problems with its radical open border policies.
Approximately 1.5 MILLION illegal immigrants have evaded apprehension at our southern border, according to Border Patrol sources.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had 204,561 alien encounters along the Southwest Border (SWB) in May 2023.
That is up over 13% from May 2021.
Since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2023, there have been over 1.6 million alien encounters at our Southwest border.
In just the first eight months of FY23, 125 people whose names appear on the terrorist watchlist were stopped trying to cross the southern border, an all time record.
There were 98 terror watchlist arrests in all of FY22.
So many illegal immigrants have been released at the southern border that New York City’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is “fully booked through October 2032” to process many of these.
Biden’s Far Left open border policies are to blame for this historic crisis.
In August 2022, Biden and his Administration decided to make the border crisis WORSE by formally ending former President Trump’s successful ‘Remain in Mexico’ program.
The Biden Administration has actively worked to end Title 42 and incentivize a worsening influx of illegal migrants at our southern border.
Despite this historic crisis Joe Biden has only visited the southern border ONCE, and it was widely panned as nothing more than a photo-op.
