Today, Speaker McCarthy will deliver on his promise to bring up for a vote the removal of Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee for her long history of anti-Semitic statements. Even Members of her own Party agree that such remarks “have no place in the Foreign Affairs Committee or the House of Representatives.” House Republicans will also deliver on our promise to preserve a future that’s built on freedom by voting on Rep. Maria Salazar’s resolution unequivocally condemning Socialism.
MAKE NO MISTAKE: Neither Socialism nor anti-Semitism should ever take root in America. Today, House Republicans will stand up against both on behalf of the American people.
RESOLUTION CONDEMNING SOCIALISM
For too long, many Democrats have fought for this Far Left authoritarian agenda, regardless of the regimes across the globe that commit acts of violence and oppression against their own people in its name.
H. Con. Res. 9 denounces socialism in all its forms and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States of America.
The concurrent resolution outlines the failures of socialist systems citing examples in the USSR, China, Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela. It also highlights the incompatibility of the founding principles of the United States of America with socialist ideologies.
Experiments with socialism have led to painful human tragedy like starvation, imprisonment, and mass murder.
Socialism has led to more than 100 million deaths around the world. Many of the greatest crimes in history were committed by socialists including Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and Nicholas Maduro.
In 2019, a Gallup poll found that 51% of young Americans viewed socialism positively while less than half of young Americans viewed capitalism positively.
Socialism is incompatible with the principles on which the United States of America was founded.
REMOVING CONGRESSWOMAN ILHAN OMAR FROM HFAC:
In February of 2019, Omar tweeted, "It's all about the Benjamins baby," in reference to American politicians' support for Israel. She even doubled down claiming, “American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)” is paying American politicians to be pro-Israel.
The House passed two resolutions in 2019 denouncing hate speech and anti-Semitism following these comments by Omar that played into anti-Semitic tropes, despite the resolution not mentioning Omar by name.
CAIR was founded in 1994. Surrounding the controversies in 2019, CAIR signed onto a letterdefending Omar, saying “We stand with Representative Omar … and reject the false charges of antisemitism.”
2,977 people died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Americans must never forget the dark day in our nation's history or allow the events to be downplayed.
In May of 2021, Omar accused Israel of committing "war crimes" following days of conflict between Israel and Hamas that saw thousands of missiles fired indiscriminately at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Rep. Omar equated the U.S. and Israel’s foreign policy decisions to the Taliban and Hamas, terrorist organizations. Following outrage at her comments, Omar said she did NOT regret her comments.
Dating all the way back to 2012, Omar tweeted, “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.” This was in reference to the Israeli military defending civilians by stopping rocket attacks from Hamas and other terrorist groups.
