From Steelworkers to Salon Owners: Americans Share How the Working Families Tax Cuts Are Helping

Chairwoman McClain, Reps. Wittman and Womack Highlight Tax Relief as Families See Bigger Refunds During First Tax Season Under the Working Families Tax Cuts

WASHINGTON – House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.), alongside Congressmen Rob Wittman (R-Va.) and Steve Womack (R-Ark.), hosted a roundtable with small business owners, manufacturing and agriculture leaders, and tax professionals to discuss how the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering real relief for families and workers as we conclude the 2025 tax season.

“For too many families, the last few years felt like a constant squeeze. You worked more, but your money did less,” Chairwoman Lisa McClain said. “The bills kept coming, and a lot of people started wondering whether anyone actually understood what that felt like. Republicans did. That’s why we fought for the Working Families Tax Cuts. And roundtables like this matter because they remind people what policy looks like in real life.” Watch Chairwoman McClain’s opening remarks here

“The Working Families Tax Cuts provide historic relief that reaches all Americans — from seniors to families, small business owners, service industry employees, and first responders,” Congressman Rob Wittman said. “It was a pleasure to join Chairwoman McClain for this roundtable discussion to hear firsthand about how the Working Families Tax Cut has provided certainty and put more money back in the pockets of hardworking Americans." Watch Congressman Wittman’s remarks here.

“I am incredibly proud that Third District residents like Sharon are keeping more of their hard‑earned money this tax season thanks to the No Tax on Tips policy I helped pass last year,” Congressman Steve Womack said. “For millions of Arkansas families, every dollar counts. Expanding meaningful tax relief for parents and grandparents puts more money back in your pocket to support the people you love. Sharon’s testimony is evidence of that impact, and I’m grateful she shared her story.” Watch Congressman Womack’s remarks here.

During the roundtable, American taxpayers shared how the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering tangible benefits for their families, businesses, and communities.

NO TAX ON TIPS

Stacey Tyree, Great Clips Employee, said: “Year after year, I have filed my taxes and somehow ended up having a balance due. This year, with the help of No Tax on Tips, when I filed, I was thrilled to be receiving a refund. The refund enabled me to enroll my husband as a dependent on my health insurance. And, for the first time in his entire adult life, he is fully covered on medical.” Watch her full testimony here

George Agurkis, Vice President of Government Relations for H&R Block, said: “According to the latest IRS data, refunds are up about 11%. Based on insights from millions of our tax pros and millions of taxpayers, there are several things we think are driving that, first being No Tax on Tips…We learned on Friday from the Treasury Department that over four million taxpayers have claimed No Tax on Tips. Just one example in Southern California: One tax pro prepared a return for a single mother who works at a bowling alley, and, generally, she would owe every year. And this year, claiming No Tax on Tips, she actually got a refund.” Watch his full testimony here

CHILD TAX CREDIT

Kaylee McGhee White, Editor-in-Chief of Independent Women and Fox News Contributor, said

RELIEF FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

Paola Hinton, Owner of Five Senses Spa, Salon, and Barbershop, said: “I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I can’t wait for Tax Day. This year, it’s different for small business owners and working Americans. Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard from salon owners across the country. A woman from California shared that she received more than $38,000 in tax credits from her 2 locations. Brandon from Texas is using his savings to fund 401ks for his employees. Brian from Georgia was able to maintain health insurance for his team. The impact is very, very real.” Watch her full testimony here

Matt Frostic, Vice President of the National Corn Growers Association and fifth-generation farmer, said: “Because we’ve made these tax cuts permanent in agriculture, we can make better decisions long-term. From an industry standpoint, when we can make better long-term decisions, we can mitigate risk and be stronger as an industry…To be able to know that we have a way of investing and a way of leveling our tax consequences from year to year brings that longevity and a sense of permanence to our farms.” Watch his full testimony here

Buddy Henley, President of Henley Construction, said: “Small family-owned businesses like mine need tax policy they can count on. That’s why the provision making small business deductions permanent was so critical. Thanks to this bill, companies like mine have the certainty they need to reinvest in equipment, materials, and people without worrying about future tax hikes that would disrupt our long-term planning.” Watch his full testimony here

Elizabeth Gartner, Tennessee Great Clips Owner, said: “My husband and I own twelve Great Clips salons in Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky…We were effectively paying taxes on money that was never hitting our topline revenue. Last year, in September, we had collected over a million dollars in tips. When we filed our taxes this year, we were at $76,000 in savings. That allowed us to plow that back into benefits packages.” Watch her full testimony here.

Mike Twining, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Willard Agri-Service, said: “When farmers struggle, independent ag retailers like our business feel it immediately. Fortunately, provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill, and particularly the Working Families Tax Cuts, have been a huge risk mitigator for our business and our customers. These expensing and investment incentives have lowered the upfront cost of investing in durable machinery, production facilities, and other necessary equipment.” Watch his full testimony here

Sarah White, Managing Partner of Westover Taco, said: “I have a very small restaurant on the other side of the river in Arlington…Just having the opportunity to see our tax returns this year—to see our staff light up when they see their tax refunds this year—has just been amazing…I really appreciate that you’re putting it back in our hands and giving us the opportunity to do with it what we need.” Watch her full testimony here.

Sarah Wellman, Director of Corporate Affairs at Ryder System, Inc., said: “The benefits of these tax provisions, such as the allowance of EBITA and 100% bonus depreciation, couldn’t have a come at a more pivotal time, as the trucking industry has been navigating a multi-year freight downturn. They help drive long-term capital investments. Collectively, this spurs the investment and deployment of newer equipment with safety and efficiency benefits.” Watch her full testimony here
