Tax Day Victory: Republicans Deliver Tax Relief and Bigger Paychecks

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) joined House leadership and Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith to highlight how the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering real relief for workers, families, and small businesses.

Remarks as prepared for delivery:

Good morning – and welcome to the first Tax Day under the new Republican tax cuts.

I want to take a close look at the amazing crew standing with us today. Job creators, small business owners…hardworking Americans…

These are the people House Republicans had in mind when we passed the Working Families Tax Cuts. The men and women who get up early, stay late, work overtime, and keep this country moving.

Because after four years of Bidenomics, Americans desperately needed relief. Families watched prices skyrocket. Groceries went up. Gas went up. Rent went up.

Republicans said enough.

We passed the Working Families Tax Cuts because we believe if you work hard, you should keep more of your money. Period.

And let me remind you of something.

Every single Democrat voted TO RAISE YOUR TAXES.

That’s right. Democrats were willing to raise taxes on the very people standing behind me today.

The waitress picking up double shifts. The Uber driver working late. The hairdresser working overtime. The small business owner trying to make payroll.

Republicans said absolutely not. Because government does not know how to spend your paycheck better than you do.

Republicans voted for bigger refunds and bigger paychecks for the American people.

Democrats voted no.

That is the difference.
