House Republicans Are Protecting Americans From Bans And Burdensome Regulations

  • lesko
Since his first day in office, Joe Biden and his Administration have worked overtime to implement Biden's failed Far Left Democrat anti-American energy agenda, which has burdened American families with skyrocketing energy prices, taken away consumer choice, and hampered economic growth.

Today, House Republicans are standing up for Americans and against Biden’s failed Far Left anti-American energy agenda, and its burdensome regulations and bans, by bringing to the floor H.R. 6192, the Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act, which was introduced by Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ).

The Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to reform the Department of Energy's (DOE's) procedures for issuing energy efficiency standards by prohibiting the Secretary of Energy from prescribing any new or amended energy conservation standards for a product that is not technologically feasible and economically justified.

FACTS ABOUT THE HANDS OFF OUR HOME APPLIANCES ACT (Courtesy of the Committee on Energy and Commerce Republicans):
  • Eliminates unnecessary and duplicative rulemaking requirements.
  • Authorizes the Secretary of Energy to amend or revoke a standard if it increases costs for consumers, does not result in significant energy or water savings, is not technologically feasible, or results in the unavailability of product.
  • Protects affordability by requiring the DOE to consider the cost to low-income households and the full-life cycle cost of appliances when determining if the new standard is economically justified.
  • Establishes minimum thresholds for energy or water savings that must be achieved before imposing new standards.
  • Prohibits the Secretary of Energy from banning products based on what type of fuel that product uses (no natural gas bans).

MAKE NO MISTAKE: House Republicans will always fight to protect Americans from burdensome federal mandates that increase costs, fail to result in significant energy savings, are not practical, and eliminate consumer choice.
