Secretary Mayorkas Has Failed to Keep Our Borders Secure, Turning Every State into A Border State

Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas is set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee about the agency's operational failures, the unprecedented border crisis, and the abandonment of immigration enforcement under his watch.

MAKE NO MISTAKE: Secretary Mayorkas has failed to secure our Southern and Northern Borders electing instead to implement President Biden's Far Left open border policies which have turned every district across America into a border district and every state into a border state, creating a historic humanitarian, economic, and national security crisis.
  • Since Joe Biden took office:
    • There have been OVER 5.6 MILLION illegal crossings of our southern border.
    • Approximately 1.6 MILLION illegal immigrants have evaded apprehension at our southern border, according to Border Patrol sources.
  • CBP has seized 22,303 pounds of fentanyl at the southern border so far in FY23.
    • Already in FY23, fentanyl seizures have surpassed the FY22 seizure total.
  • In just the first nine months of FY23, 140 people whose names appear on the terrorist watchlist were stopped trying to cross the southern border, an all time record
    • This total is more than the encounters in all FY17, FY18, FY19 and FY20 combined
    • In all of FY22, 98 terror watchlist arrests were recorded. FY23 has already greatly surpassed that with three months still left in the fiscal year.
    • In May, an Afghan national on the U.S. terror watchlist was arrested after he illegally entered the U.S.
  • The Biden Administration announced on May 10, 2023, that it would allow for the release of some migrants into the U.S. with no way to track them.
    • Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has now admitted that 40 percent of catch-and-release migrants have disappeared.
  • Biden’s Far Left open border policies are to blame for this historic crisis.
  • Despite this historic crisis Joe Biden has only visited the southern border ONCE, and it was widely panned as nothing more than a photo-op.
  • So many illegal immigrants have been released at the southern border that New York City’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is “fully booked through October 2032” to process many of these.
IT’S SIMPLE: House Republicans know that border security is national security, and that is why we made tackling the Biden border crisis a central pillar of our Commitment To America, and H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, fulfills that promise. The Secure the Border Act of 2023 will secure the border and combat illegal immigration.

  • Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall.
  • Deploy technology to the Southern and Northern border.
  • Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay.
  • Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking.
  • End catch and release.
  • End abuse of executive immigration authority.
  • Strengthen and streamline the asylum process.
