House Republicans Advance Rep. Van Duyne’s Bill to Cut Red Tape, Help Small Businesses Save Money

WASHINGTON—Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Rep. Beth Van Duyne’s (R-Texas) H.R. 2965, which requires the Small Business Administration to ensure its regulatory changes do not raise compliance costs for small businesses.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Van Duyne released the following statements:

“After spending more than a decade growing my business, it’s not lost on me how expensive, onerous, and unnecessary regulations can be on job creators,” said Chairwoman McClain. “Republicans delivered the Working Families Tax Cuts to give small businesses room to invest and grow. Rep. Van Duyne’s bill now builds on that progress, slashing even more red tape so the backbone of our economy can continue to grow, raise wages, and create jobs.”

“By passing my Small Business Regulatory Reduction Act of 2025, House Republicans have come together to provide much-needed relief to America’s job creators after they have been burdened by years of overregulation,” said Rep. Van Duyne. “After a record-breaking $1.8 trillion in regulatory costs from the previous administration, it is far past time to identify the true costs of federal regulations so we can remove them and ensure American small businesses have more time and money to expand operations or hire new employees. Less regulation on Main Street means more prosperity for our communities and a stronger economy for America.”

Federal regulations are estimated to cost more than $3 trillion nationwide, with small businesses bearing much of that burden. H.R. 2965, the Small Business Regulatory Reduction Act, also directs the SBA to report annually on the regulatory costs other federal agencies impose on small businesses.
