House Republicans Continue Passing Commonsense Legislation to Lower Energy Costs for American Families

The House is Considering Five Energy Bills this Week

WASHINGTON — This week, House Republicans are passing commonsense bills to lower energy costs for hardworking Americans.

“Under President Biden’s failed energy agenda, families have been crushed by higher gas and electricity costs,” House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) said. “House Republicans are reversing that damage by unleashing American energy, cutting burdensome regulations, and taking real steps to lower costs and restore our nation’s energy independence.”

Republicans’ efforts are already driving down energy prices nationwide. Gas prices have fallen to their lowest average level in four years.

Rep. Latta’s H.R. 3109 requires the Secretary of Energy to direct the National Petroleum Council to issue a report with respect to petrochemical refineries in the United States:

“As energy demand grows, we have to ensure our refining capacity grows with it to maintain America’s energy dominance. The REFINER Act will provide the data and insight needed to guide decisions that reinforce our energy infrastructure and help keep fuel costs low for American families. I urge my House colleagues to vote in favor of this bill,” Rep. Latta said.

Rep. Pfluger’s H.R. 1949 lifts all restrictions on import and export of natural gas, with limited exceptions to limit trade with a person or foreign country under sanction or listed as a state sponsor of terrorism:

“President Biden spent four years pandering to progressive climate extremists and restricting LNG exports instead of unleashing American energy production to provide our allies with a secure, affordable source of energy. I am thankful we have a president back in office who understands that having efficient, reliable, and affordable energy is the key to U.S. national security,” Rep. Pfluger said. “This legislation reinforces President Trump’s pro-energy agenda by removing the DOE’s export authorization requirement, streamlining the permitting process. Energy security is national security, and I urge all of my colleagues to support this critical legislation.”

Rep. Hageman’s H.J. Res. 130 overturns Biden’s restrictions that prohibited future coal leasing applications through 2038 in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming:

“The Biden administration’s relentless war on American energy was waged at every level, including in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin, where it halted coal leasing. This made 48 billion short tons of coal unavailable, cutting off the source of over 40% of our nation’s coal in a matter which violates federal law, imposes energy poverty on national consumers, and disregards the communities whose livelihoods depend on these resources. H.J. Res. 130 is a vote to restore our national energy dominance, protect Wyoming jobs and prosperity, and reassert Congress's authority over an unchecked administrative state,” Rep. Hageman said

Rep. Begich’s H.J. Res. 131 repeals the Biden-era Record of Decision restricting oil and gas development on 1.16 million acres in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge:

“H.J. Res. 131 and S.J. Res. 80 are crucial steps toward restoring America’s energy security and unlocking Alaska’s vast energy potential,” Rep. Begich said. "Federal overreach has sidelined responsible development in some of the most resource-rich regions of the United States. By reversing these harmful Biden-era restrictions, we are unleashing American energy dominance and ensuring that our nation has the reliable, affordable energy it needs to power homes, our communities, and a growing economy.”

S.J. Res. 80 repeals the Biden-era Integrated Activity Plan for the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, which locked up nearly 12 million acres of energy resources on Alaska’s North Slope from development.

This new package of bills continues Republicans’ work to make energy more affordable by strengthening domestic production and restoring America’s energy leadership. House Republicans passed the Working Families Tax Cuts to ensure robust onshore and offshore oil and gas leasing nationwide, allowing the United States to fully harness its abundant natural resources. In addition, 20 of President Biden’s burdensome and disastrous regulations have been repealed, federal permitting has been streamlined, and royalty rates have been reduced—helping increase supply, improve reliability, and reduce costs for the American people.
