FY 2024 Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill

Today, House Republicans are voting on the Fiscal Year 2024 Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill, securing Congress' continued operation for the American people and boosting funding for Capitol Police officer recruitment, training, and retention. 

This legislation also requires unspent Members’ Representational Allowances to be used for debt and deficit reduction and restricts funds from being used to make incentive or award payments to contractors for work on contracts or programs behind schedule or over budget.

FACTS ABOUT THE FY24 LEGISLATIVE BRANCH APPROPRIATIONS BILL (Courtesy of House Appropriations Republicans):

  • Ensures Congress remains open and working for the American people by:
    • Increasing funding for recruiting, training, and retaining sworn Capitol Police officers;
    • Ensuring adequate resources for Members to effectively serve their constituents, including funding for staffing and other office expenditures; and
    • Providing modest increases to agencies that provide research and support for Members, including the Congressional Budget Office, Library of Congress, and Government Accountability Office.
  • Provides $1.851 billion, $3.4 million more than FY23 and $51.8 million less than the FY24 request.
  • Maintains funding to committees of the House of Representatives so it can hold the Biden Administration accountable by conducting rigorous oversight of the Executive Branch.
  • Supports planned reorganization of the Chief Administrative Office, including restructuring functions of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, saving millions of taxpayer dollars.
  • Requires unspent amounts from Members’ Representational Allowances to be used for debt and deficit reduction.
  • Restricts funds from being used to make incentive or award payments to contractors for work on contracts or programs behind schedule or over budget.
  • Maintains a restriction on the use of funds for computer networks that do not block pornography.
  • Prohibits the use of funds for the maintenance or care of private vehicles.
  • Prevents the purchasing of telecommunications equipment from China and other adversaries.
