Chairwoman McClain Highlights GOP Wins on Taxes and Energy

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) joined House Republican Leadership and freshman Representative Clay Fuller to highlight the exceptional results of Republican tax relief and the need to restore common-sense energy policy to lower costs for American families

Remarks as prepared for delivery:

Good morning – Last week, Americans saw the results of Republican policies:

53 million taxpayers claimed at least one new tax cut.

The average person got a refund of $3,400 - an 11% jump from last year.

And 30 million workers kept every cent of their tips and overtime.

This makes a difference for folks. I bring it up again because it’s the perfect example of what we’re dealing with. Every single Democrat voted NO on these tax cuts … THAT’S CRAZY!

Meanwhile, every Republican voted to keep more of YOUR money in YOUR pocket – that’s commonsense.

Now, I know that even with bigger refunds, many families are struggling financially right now. I get it. But we also owe it to the American people to be honest about how we got here.

Let me be candid: We’re digging out of a hole. The Biden administration killed the Keystone Pipeline on DAY ONE.

Then, they made it harder to drill, baby, drill. They cut off our energy supply. Cut off our permits. And he drained our Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

That. Is. Crazy.

From Day One, Republicans have been fighting to build back. America is drilling again. We’ve opened hundreds of acres for production, approved nearly 6,000 permits, and set historic records for American exports.

We are refilling our Reserve and making sure America never has to beg a foreign adversary for energy again.

And we’re passing legislation – including legislation this week – to scrap burdensome regulations and unlock our natural resources.

President Trump is fighting right now to make sure the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism never gets a nuclear weapon. Biden’s policies made it harder for America to do that – period. I’m not passing the buck. I am just giving you the facts.

It’s CRAZY that Democrats closed the Keystone Pipeline.

It’s CRAZY to rely on our enemies for our oil and natural gas.

It’s CRAZY to sacrifice our national and economic security for woke, Green New Deal talking points.

So no – energy prices aren’t where any of us want to be. But energy policy is moving in the right direction because Republicans are leading with COMMON SENSE.

Reopening the Keystone Pipeline is COMMON SENSE.

Reinstating drilling permits is COMMON SENSE.

Slashing red tape is COMMON SENSE.

And the American people know the difference.

With that, I’d like to turn it over to one of the newest members of our Conference, who we’re SO happy to have: Mr. Clay Fuller from Georgia.
