WASHINGTON—Today, House Republicans voted to reject socialist policies in the United States by adopting a resolution denouncing socialism in all its forms, led by Cuban-American Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL).
“The Mamdani socialist agenda is seeping into our country like poison. Republicans won’t let it take root,” said House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain.“Congresswoman Salazar knowsthat socialism destroys the freedoms of all who suffer under its thumb. As a Cuban-American and daughter of exiles, she’sexperiencedthehorrificconsequences theradicalleft-wing Democratskeep trying to import. We will never bow to socialism.Republicans and President Trumpwill defend freedom, liberty, and the American way with everything we have.”
“Socialism is a lie. It has never delivered justice or equality, only fear, censorship, poverty, and broken nations. I represent thousands of families who fled their homelands because socialist regimes promised paradise and delivered prisons,”said Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL). “Today, the House is sending a clear message: we will never allow socialism’s failed, destructive ideology to take root in the United States. America must remain the beacon of freedom that exposes socialism’s lies and defends the God-given rights of every individual.”
“I commend Congresswoman Salazar’s resolution which articulates America’s unwavering stance in denouncing socialism in all forms and rejects its insidious policies from encroaching our nation”said House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill. “The contrast between the successful policies of market capitalism and socialism could not be starker, and her resolution reaffirms the United States’ fight against an ideology that has brought suffering and despair to millions across the globe.”
“I cosponsored and will be voting for H. Con. Res. 58 because the truth is clear: wherever socialism has taken root, it has brought oppression, instability, and economic collapse,”said Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY). “Here in New York, politicians like Zohran Mamdani are pushing socialist policies that would raise costs and hurt the hardworking families who keep our communities strong. I’ll continue standing for freedom, economic strength, and the founding values that built this country and continue to guide us forward. Socialism has no place in America.”
“The recent election of a self-proclaimed, anti-American socialist mayor in one of the country’s major cities underscores the urgency of condemning socialism and communism and standing firmly united in defense of the values that define us as a free people,”said Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL). “This resolution honors the more than 100 million lives lost as a result of these evil and destructive ideologies – from the purge policies of Mao and Stalin to the murderous dictatorships in North Korea, Eastern Europe, and the Western Hemisphere. Thankfully, President Trump understands the grave threat these destructive ideologies pose to the American way of life. Under his leadership, the United States has rejected Marxist dogma and reaffirmed our commitment to freedom, including through the recent observance of Anti-Communism Week and Victims of Communism Day.”
“Under Kathy Hochul’s failed leadership, the NY Democrat Party has been taken over by the radical Defund the Police Tax Hiking Antisemitic Socialists. Today multiple NY Democrats voted in support of Socialism because many are now running scared from the vicious primaries that Hochul’s weakness has allowed. Today the evaporation of the traditional NY Democrat Party will culminate when Kathy Hochul’s Communist-in-Chief visits the White House. I will never bend the knee to the radical Socialists who are destroying New York making it catastrophically more unaffordable and less safe. I am running to Save New York to make it affordable and safe for all,” said Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY).
“As a Korean American who grew up in the aftermath of the Korean War, I’ve witnessed the horrors of socialism firsthand. If you want to see the difference between socialism and freedom, look at the Korean peninsula at night. South Korea shines with opportunity. North Korea is trapped in darkness,”said Rep. Young Kim (R-CA). “Time and again throughout history, socialism has led to disaster. Now more than ever, as socialist ideas gain traction here at home — and as our nation’s largest city and financial capital has elected not just a socialist, but a communist, as mayor — we must firmly defend our capitalist, free market system which empowers Americans of all backgrounds to achieve freedom, opportunity and prosperity.”
“History has shown repeatedly that socialism, no matter how it’s packaged, leads to misery, repression, and economic ruin,” said Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY). “For my family, this isn’t theoretical. My wife immigrated from a communist country where people didn’t have the basic freedoms and opportunities we often take for granted here in the United States. This resolution sends a clear and united message: America rejects the failures of socialism in all its forms. We owe it to future generations to defend the freedoms that have made our nation the greatest in the world.”
“Socialism has failed everywhere it’s been tried, and the last thing New Yorkers need is Zohran Mamdani trying to drag our region in that direction,”said Rep. Nick LaLota(R-NY). “My district is just an hour from New York City, where many of my constituents work and visit, and they’re rightfully concerned about what Mamdani’s brand of radical socialism would mean for their livelihoods and safety. Long Islanders won’t sit back while extremists try to impose an ideology that has brought hardship and misery everywhere it’s been tried — and I’ll fight it every step of the way.”
“Socialism is merely Communism-light and as someone whose mother fled Communist Cuba, I know firsthand how socialist policies erode prosperity and freedom, robbing hopes and dreams,”said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY). “Unfortunately, here in the United States, we’re seeing similar radical left policies take root in cities like mine with the election of a self-declared socialist who has embraced the communist ideas of Karl Marx including seizing the means of production, government takeover of supermarkets, and abolishing private property ownership. If we are to preserve the American Dream for future generations, we must push back against these dangerous and destructive ideas, which are the very same policies millions of immigrants came to the United States to escape.”
“Socialism always ends in an equal distribution of misery and bloodshed that’s hard to recover from — just look at Ukraine almost three decades later,”said Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN).
H. Con. Res. 58expresses the collective view of the U.S. House of Representatives and formally condemns socialism and its historical consequences.
