House Republicans Will Always Back The Blue

  • police week
Last night, in honor of National Police Week, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) hosted a candlelight vigil to honor fallen law enforcement officers and reaffirmed that House Republicans will continue to stand with our brave men and women in blue.

Starting today, and throughout the week, House Republicans will bring to the floor a series of bills that highlight our continued support for America’s law enforcement offices.

Over the last three years, Joe Biden and Far Left Democrats' repeated support for the Defund the Police movement and anti-police legislation has resulted in violent crime against our brave men and women in blue to skyrocket across the country. Now more than ever, law enforcement officers need our support.

FACTS ABOUT POLICE WEEK BILLS:
  • Today, House Republicans will bring to the floor H.R. 7530 the DC CRIMES Act of 2024 asserts Congressional control over the District of Columbia by prohibiting the D.C. Council from pursuing soft-on-crime sentencing policy.
    • Specifically, the bill lowers D.C 's definition of a “youth” from under 25 years old to under 18, requires the D.C. Attorney General to establish a public website containing statistics on juvenile crime, and prohibits D.C. from enacting any changes to criminal liability sentencing, leaving only Congress the authority to change such laws.
  • Today, House Republicans will bring to the floor H.R.354 the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) Reform Act expands the LEOSA exemption to allow qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry firearms on state, local, and private property otherwise open to the public and also extends the exemption to magazine capacity and would allow active and retired law enforcement officers to access these Federal facilities without disarming or securing their firearms elsewhere.
  • Today, House Republicans will bring to the floor H.R. 7343 the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act requires Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain any illegal immigrant who has been charged with or convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer.
  • This week, House Republicans will also bring to the floor H.R. 7581 the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act ensures adequate data collection to address the rise in anti-police attacks. Specifically, the legislation supports law enforcement officers by:
    • Increasing the categories of information that can be voluntarily reported regarding anti-police attacks, including the intention and coordination of perpetrators;
    • Directing the Justice Department to explore adding escalatory aggression to its reports; shedding light on the mental health and stress-related impacts of aggressive activity or trauma on law enforcement; and
    • Exploring the availability and extent to which mental health resources for officers are used.
  • This week, House Republicans will also bring to the floor H.R. 8146 the Police Our Border Act requires the Attorney General to report to Congress on how the Biden border crisis affects law enforcement at various levels.
  • This week, House Republicans will also bring to the floor H.Res.1210 condemns the Biden border crisis and the tremendous burdens law enforcement officers face as a result.
  • This week, House Republicans will also bring to the floor H.Res.1213 condemns calls to defund the police, which has increased violence towards law enforcement officers.
