WASHINGTON— Today, House Republicans passed H.R. 8312, the Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act, legislation led by Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) to strengthen fraud prevention across the federal government and help protect taxpayer dollars from fraud, scams, and abuse.”
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Sessions released the following statements: “Washington has a fraud problem, and taxpayers are the ones paying the price,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Democrats allowed trillions of dollars to be carelessly drained from our programs and then acted surprised when fraudsters showed up with buckets. The tools that uncovered billions in suspicious spending should not disappear the moment they start working. We are making fraud prevention a permanent part of government and putting taxpayers ahead of scammers for a change.” "Today, I am proud to announce that my bill, the Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act passed out of the House,” Rep. Sessions said. “Since 2003, the federal government has lost $3 trillion to potential fraud and improper payments. We need real solutions to ensure that taxpayer dollars are protected and reach the citizens who need them most. The Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act is the first salvo of Congress’s defense against fraudsters who seek to steal the federal benefits of the most vulnerable of American citizens. I look forward to the Senate taking up this important piece of legislation and further strengthening Congress’s control of taxpayer dollars." The Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act preserves the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee's anti-fraud data analytics and investigative capabilities and establishes a permanent Inspector General for Fraud, Accountability, and Recovery. The bill also strengthens Treasury's ability to share data, verify eligibility, screen payments, and help agencies stop improper payments before taxpayer dollars are lost. |
