House Passes Bill to Protect Energy Supply and Lower Energy Costs

WASHINGTON—Today, the House passed H.R. 3638, the Electric Supply Chain Act, led by Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio). The bill requires the Department of Energy to regularly review risks and vulnerabilities in the supply chains for electricity generation, transmission, and key grid components, helping prevent outages and lower energy costs for American families.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Latta released the following statements:

“Keeping the lights on and bills affordable is a basic responsibility, yet the Biden administration allowed bureaucrats to hold our electric supply chain hostage,” said Chairwoman McClain. “The Electric Supply Chain Act takes real action, protecting our grid, crushing threats before they spark outages, and shielding hardworking families from higher bills.”

“Energy security is national security, and this bill brings us one step closer to unleashing American energy dominance,” said Rep. Bob Latta, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy. “The Electric Supply Chain Act will strengthen the reliability of our electric grid, expand domestic energy production, and ensure we can power the artificial intelligence data centers of the future. Together, these efforts reinforce American-led energy production and security across the board. I’m grateful to my House colleagues for supporting this bill, and I urge the Senate to act on this critical legislation.”
