House Republicans Expose Democrat Plan to Dismantle Medicaid Reforms, Undermine Rural Healthcare

WASHINGTON—House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement alongside a new report outlining the dangerous consequences of the Democrats’ proposed $1.5 trillion Continuing Resolution, which would repeal Medicaid reforms Republicans secured under theWorking Families Tax Cuts (WFTC):

“Democrats are trying to quietly undo critical healthcare protections for rural Americans and expose taxpayers to hundreds of billions in new spending. House Republicans are sounding the alarm — we will not stand by as the Left reverses our common-sense policies to make Medicaid more accountable, affordable, and sustainable for future generations,” Chairwoman McClain said.

The Democrat proposal would:

  • Eliminate the Rural Hospital Transformation Program, which invested $50 billion to prevent rural hospital closures and expand access to emergency care.
  • Reopen the Provider Tax Loophole, allowing states like California to manipulate Medicaid funding and divert taxpayer dollars to illegal immigrants.
  • Restore enhanced federal payments for emergency services to non-citizens, reversing a reform that saved $28 billion and aligned spending with federal law.

Together, these repeals would erase over $219 billion in projected savings and put rural communities at greater risk.
