This Administration’s Open Borders And Far Left Agenda Endangers Every American

The failures of Kamala Harris as border czar have led to an unprecedented border crisis jeopardizing the safety and security of every American. Today, House Republicans will vote on legislation to prevent funding from supporting radical sanctuary cities that are worsening our border crisis. We will also vote to end the EPA’s unreasonable tailpipe emissions rule and restore Americans’ choice in vehicles.  
 
MAKE NO MISTAKE: The American people have had enough of the failed Far Left Democrat open border policies and burdensome woke agenda.
 
FACTS ABOUT H.R. 5717 – No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act: 
  • The skyrocketing number of illegal immigrants being allowed to flood across our borders along with the Democrats’ radical sanctuary city policies have resulted in a historic illegal immigration crisis that has turned every community into a border community. These cities and states refuse to enforce immigration laws on the books and cooperate with federal law enforcement or immigration officials. These policies actively incentivize illegal immigration, leading to the crises we are seeing across the country right now.
  • In New York City alone, free hotels, healthcare, and debit cards attracted more than 100,000 migrants since the spring of 2022, and more than 65,000 remain in the city's care. 
    • Even Mayor Adams said, “We are close to capacity,” proving this crisis has blown past even their wildest open-border progressive dreams. 
    • Mayor Adams admitted that he doesn’t “see an ending to this” and later admitted that “this issue will destroy New York City.”
  • Dangerous Venezuelan gangs like Tren de Aragua are overwhelming American cities and communities incentivized by Far Left Democrat sanctuary city policies threatening the safety and security of every American. 
    • In Aurora, Colorado, residents are fed up as a violent Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, runs rampant in the community. 
      • Aurora’s neighboring city, Denver, is a sanctuary city, which incentivizes mass immigration, many from Venezuela. 
      • The gang is using various apartment complexes as a central base, terrorizing local residents.
      • Residents and local officials said Aurora police have been downplaying the gang problem.
    • In Athens, Georgia, Jose Ibarra, a Tren de Aragua member, brutally murdered 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley in February.  
  • Venezuelan gangs are taking advantage of sanctuary city policies in Democrat run cities interfering with law enforcement efforts and local politicians and refusing to cooperate with federal immigration officials.
    • Venezuelan gang leaders are actively recruiting members within American tax-payer funded illegal immigrant shelters. 
  • The No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act prevents sanctuary cities from receiving federal funding that would benefit illegal immigrants–including the provision of food, shelter, healthcare services, legal services, and transportation–and bailout sanctuary cities from the crisis they created. 
    • By removing financial support, this encourages cities to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, particularly in terms of detaining and deporting illegal immigrants.

  • The Biden-Harris Administration's rush-to-green agenda is handing China the keys to America's energy future, jeopardizing our auto industry, and forcing people to buy expensive electric vehicles (EVs) they don't want.  
  • That's why Energy and Commerce Republican John James (R-MI) is leading on H.J. Res 136, to end the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) unrealistic tailpipe emissions rule, which would-by its own estimation-effectively require at least two-thirds of all new cars in the United States to be electric by 2032.
  • EVs are unrealistic for many Americans:
    • Gas-powered vehicles continue to outperform EVs with significantly higher ranges, greater towing capacity, and they are less susceptible to issues caused by severe weather conditions. EVs battery range can be cut by 40% in colder weather, making them completely impractical for many Americans.
    • The lack of vehicle charging infrastructure in many parts of the country, especially rural areas, and the time it takes to charge makes EVs impractical for many Americans.
    • According to the University of Michigan, "The average fully electric vehicle costs an extra $17,000 compared to a gas burning compact crossover."
    • Rapid EV expansion could overwhelm the electric grid and compromise grid reliability, which would result in blackouts and other issues.
  • Americans don't want to be forced to drive EVs:
    • A recent study found that nearly half of EV drivers want to return to traditional cars with internal combustion engines.
    • Reuters recently reported that J.D. Power was cutting its EV sales projection by 25%-citing increased competition in the market for gasoline-powered vehicle alternatives.
    • Stellantis has announced layoffs, and Ford Motor announced it was scrapping a planned three-row electric SUV and pushing back a new electric version of its bestselling pickup, the F-150, to focus on cutting costs to stimulate demand.
    • Ford said its EV business is on track to lose $5 billion this year alone.
  • KEY: H.J. Res 136 is not anti-electric vehicle-removing the EPA's de facto EV mandate does not prevent manufacturers from making EVs or people from buying EVs.
