Last year marked record homicide rates for nine U.S. cities as police departments throughout the nation grappled with Democrats’ continued ‘Defund the Police’ movement, soft-on-crime policies, and failed bail reform. Albuquerque, Aurora, Colorado Springs, Little Rock, Milwaukee, Portland, Raleigh, San Antonio, and Tacoma make up the list. Across the country, homicides were UP 13% last year compared to 2020—the year before Joe Biden took office and cemented one-party Democrat rule in Washington.

BIDEN’S CRIME CRISIS BY THE NUMBERS:

• According to the Major Cities Chiefs Association’s 2022 crime report for urban areas across the country:
  • Homicides are UP 13% since 2020.
  • Rape is UP 23.56% since 2020.
  • Aggravated Assaults are UP 33.89% since 2020.
• Nine U.S. cities hit new homicide records in 2022.
• According to the National Fraternal Order of Police, in 2022:
  • 331 police officers were shot.
  • 62 police officers were killed by gunfire.
    • 32% increase in police officers killed by gunfire compared to 2020.
  • 89 ambush-style attacks on police officers.
  • 126 police officers were shot in ambush-style attacks.
• 2021 was the deadliest year in two decades for our law enforcement officers.
• Biden’s Department of Justice released a report in December showing that even as crime skyrocketed in 2021, federal arrests actuallydecreased by 35% compared to 2020.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS’ PLAN; A NATION THAT’S SAFE:

• Reduce Crime and Protect Public Safety:
  • Support 200,000 more police officers through recruiting and retention bonuses.
  • Oppose all efforts to defund the police.
  • Crack down on prosecutors and district attorneys who refuse to prosecute crime, while permanently criminalizing all forms of illicit fentanyl.

WHAT HOUSE REPUBLICANS HAVE ALREADY DONE:

• PASSED a Joint Resolution Disapproving the District of City Council Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022: 
  • H.J. Res. 26, led by Rep. Andrew Clyde, expressed Congress’ disapproval of this dangerous soft-on-crime bill aiming to prevent it from going into effect.
  • The Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022 (D.C. Act 24-789) eliminates mandatory minimums and reduces maximum sentences for criminals in D.C. during a time that the District cannot afford to be lenient on crime. 
  • The majority of the House Democratic Caucus voted against this resolution and in favor of reducing penalties for criminals in our nation’s Capital.
