WASHINGTON—The House passed H. Res. 1490, led by Rep. Jeff Crank (R-Colo.), condemning socialism in all its forms and reaffirming the House’s commitment to free and secure elections for American citizens.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Crank released the following statements after House passage:

“America was built on the belief that people should control their own lives, their own property, and their own future,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Socialism turns that idea on its head by giving government more power and the individual less freedom. House Republicans will always stand on the side of freedom.”

“It is imperative as Members of Congress that we recommit ourselves to the Constitution and stand firm against this insidious push for socialism,” Rep. Crank said. “192 Democrats voted against my resolution to condemn socialism in all its forms. 10-15 years ago, a resolution like this would’ve passed the House unanimously. The Democratic Socialists of America are a threat to the American values that make our nation great. This evening’s vote showed who stands for freedom, and others who stand with socialism.”

The resolution formally condemns socialism in all its forms, including the Democratic Socialists of America, and rejects socialist policies that expand government control at the expense of individual freedom. It also reaffirms that American elections are for American citizens and calls for passage of the SAVE America Act to strengthen election security.
