Cathy McMorris Rodgers Remarks as Prepared for Delivery:
“Good morning, everyone. As others have mentioned, tonight is the President’s final State of the Union address. People are also saying tonight is “his night”. But tonight? Tonight is the people’s night.
“If the President’s LAST State of the Union address is anything like this rest of his presidency, we know what to expect: the status quo; ideas from on-high; empty words. This is President Obama’s legacy; top-down, government-knows-best policies.
“What I wish the President would say, is that he respects the people — through their elected representatives — to make the best decisions for themselves and the future of this country.
“He’s had his ‘year of action.’ And he’s had his, ‘pen and phone.’
“But we haven’t seen him recognize the role of ‘We the people’ … choosing instead to ‘go at it alone.’
“2016 is about a choice – a choice between President Obama’s status quo agenda, and what we’re working on here in the People’s House.
“An agenda for the people – produced by the people’s representatives and built from the bottom up.
“An agenda that will help us reach a future where people aren’t limited where they finish, because of where they start.
“An agenda that opens up America to a future, where families, students, small businesses, and seniors in EVERY corner of America each have their individual power restored to pursue their own dreams, instead of a government dreaming for them.
“It’s an agenda that makes people’s lives brighter.
“This morning – over at the House Republican Conference – we launched SOTU.GOP.GOV, where we’ll be streaming the GOP Address to the nation.
“This is also where you can track the House Republicans all day today – I encourage everyone to head over to that website today.”
