This morning, House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) led a House Republican Leadership press conference to discuss how, through appropriations and homeland security legislation, House Republicans are focused on Americans’ safety, security, and prosperity. So focused, in fact, that for the first time in several years, we’re passing all 12 appropriations bills before the fiscal year deadline.
Chair McMorris Rodgers also invited House Homeland Security Committee Chair Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA) to join and share a firsthand account of hurricane recovery relief and reiterate the importance of this week’s votes.

Here are key excerpts from the Chair’s remarks:
“Following 9/11, I remember feeling more connected to my neighbors than ever. All of us had been under attack and felt that our values were threatened. As a country we leaned [on one another], stood together, and thought together about what it was going to take to have a better future. I see these same qualities emerging today as millions across the country are facing the devastation of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma…as well as the fires in the Pacific Northwest. It’s in these times we see strangers helping strangers — it’s the character of our country.”
“This week, the People’s House is focusing on the priorities of public safety and national security…[with] legislation to help support law enforcement, continue our efforts to identify and mitigate threats, and strengthen the information sharing among agencies.”
