House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed the Trickett Wendler, Frank Mongiello, Jordan McLinn, and Matthew Bellina Right to Try Act of 2018 (H.R. 5247), sponsored by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA).
“Patients who are suffering and fighting for their lives should have every chance to find a cure and treatment that works. When our nation is leading in medical discovery, we cannot let terminally ill patients and their families lose hope because a potentially lifesaving treatment is just beyond their reach. To give them the hope they need, the people’s House is taking action on the Right to Try Act of 2018 to improve access to experimental treatments before it’s too late.
“I’m thankful for my colleagues on the Energy and Commerce Committee, including Chair Greg Walden, Health Subcommittee Chair Michael Burgess, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, and Rep. Andy Biggs, for their leadership on this bipartisan bill. In his State of the Union address, President Trump made this legislation a priority. I hope that we send this to his desk as soon as possible.”
