House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Program Authorization Act of 2017 (H.R. 3249). Introduced by Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA), this legislation will officially authorize the Project Safe Neighborhoods program to facilitate partnerships between federal, state, and local agencies to combat violent gang crimes. H.R. 3249 will now go to the president for signature.
“Americans deserve to live their lives without fear of gang violence in their communities. Authorizing the Project Safe Neighborhoods program will provide critical resources that help these communities counter an escalation of crime and instability brought on by dangerous gangs, like MS-13. I’m thankful for Rep. Comstock’s continued leadership on this issue. For the safety of families everywhere, I look forward to President Trump signing this bill into law.”
