House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) went on Fox News earlier today to call out the Senate Democrats for their completely unnecessary government shutdown. This is a #SchumerShutdown and it’s on the Senate Democrats to end it. For more information, visit SchumerShutdown.com.
Chair McMorris Rodgers, the highest ranking woman in Congress, also applauded President Trump for keeping the National Mall open for visitors, especially during the Women’s March.

Here’s what you may have missed:
ON THE #SCHUMERSHUTDOWN
“This is completely unnecessary. We don’t need to be in this situation. Unfortunately there are some political games being played. The House took action and, it was bipartisan, to keep the government funded, provide certainty to… the 9 million [children] dependent on the children’s health care program, and to pay our troops. We didn’t need to be in this situation but Senator Schumer and the Democrats in the Senate decided to take a different course.”
DEMOCRATS HAD NO REASON TO OPPOSE OUR BILL
“This legislation to keep the government funded, there is nothing in it that the Democrats oppose. I would urge him to join in the bipartisan negotiations that were going on between the House, Senate, and the White House. We need some more time but that needs to be the way it is done, not through a government shutdown.”
IT’S TIME TO PUT THE PEOPLE FIRST
“It is time to put people first, to put people before politics. That is why the House is frustrated. We have a lot of work to do. I was just over on the Senate side…For the most part the House is waiting right now for the Senate to take action and for Senator Schumer to come on board and figure out what it will take for the government to open again.
“I encourage people to visit SchumerShutdown.com, where you can get more information on the latest on what the situation is.”
REPUBLICANS WANT A DACA FIX, TOO
“The Democrats are putting up false deadlines. I believe we need a DACA fix. It is important to me. But this is not that deadline. The deadline [for DACA] is March 5 and I’m pleased that the President gave us that time. There are important negotiations going on right now… We shouldn’t be having this debate in the context of a shutdown.”
ON THE WOMEN’S MARCH AND KEEPING THE NATIONAL MALL OPEN
“I think it’s noteworthy that President Trump tweeted in support of the Women’s March…celebrating what women are contributing to this country. In contrast to the last government shutdown, when President Obama put up barriers to the World War II Memorial for our World War II veterans, many of whom [were in town] on Honor Flights.”
