McMorris Rodgers: “We’re celebrating our economy”

House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) led this morning’s House Republican Leadership press conference to discuss how House Republicans continue to deliver on the American people’s priorities, including  tax reform and its growing success. Tax reform is just one of the many ways House Republicans’ agenda is improving lives for families across the country.

Chair McMorris Rodgers also invited Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) to share what House Republicans, especially the Small Business Committee and the Financial Services Committee, are doing to help nation’s small business owners, workers, and their families.

“We’re celebrating our economy. It hit another milestone recently — unemployment dropped to 3.9 percent. That’s the lowest since 2000. Just another indicator that the pro-growth policies, tax reform and other policies we’ve been promoting, are working.

“This message was reinforced recently for me, again. A small business owner was sharing his story. His business he started from the ground up. He started with a junk and trash removal business and he first was renting his U-Haul. He’s grown that now into a fleet of custom-engineered trucks, more than 40 employees. But over the last decade, he felt like he was just stuck and that he didn’t have the resources to invest in new equipment or his employees.

“Today, because of tax reform and because of the regulatory relief, he’s investing $2 million in new trucks to improve safety, increase efficiency, and he’s also investing in his employees.

“This small business story is about trucks, but it’s really about improving people’s lives. His employees are going to have more confidence, he has more confidence, higher wages, better paychecks.

“I’m pleased to see the impact of tax reform — the increased consumer confidence for individuals, for small businesses, for corporations is translating now into investment. We’re continuing to see tax reform being implemented all across this country.

“Last week was Small Business Week, and we were in our districts. This week, we have more bills on the floor around small business. One of the bills that I’ve introduced is incentivizing Small Business Investment Companies, the SBICs, to go to those under-served areas…

“We also have with us today Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, who is a leader both on the Small Business Committee and the Financial Services Committee. I’ve invited him to share some of the work that they’ve been doing as it relates to growing our economy.”
