Here’s what House Republicans have been saying about tax reform on TV:

House Ways and Means Committee Chair Kevin Brady (R-TX) on Fox News:

“I think the message to our global competitors…is America is never going to fall this far behind again. We’re not waiting 31 years to become competitive again.”

Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD) on Fox Business:

“This bill is very good. It lowers taxes for individuals; it lowers tax rates for small businesses on Main Street and gives them tools they didn’t have before…it lowers tax rates on larger companies that want to come back to our country and be competitive in a world market like we see today. This is going to be the largest tax cut for families and small businesses that we’ve had in the history of our country.”

Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI) on WOOD TV:

“We really need to focus [tax reform] on that middle-income and that lower-middle-income. That’s why we’re doubling the standard deduction; that’s why we’re lowering the rates; that’s why we’re trying to make sure that hardworking small businesses…are the ones who are really able to take some advantage.”

Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) on Fox Business:

The fact is that a lot of this tax relief is geared directly toward hardworking Minnesotans and hardworking Americans in the low- and middle-income class. That’s primarily because of those tax brackets changing, whether you use the standard deduction that’s been doubled or having lower rates at different bracket levels….we’re aiming this towards growing our economy, helping make sure we’re going to have a more prosperous future…with more jobs, higher wages.”

Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) on Fox Business:

“I’m so proud of the work that’s being done [on tax reform]. The thing people are going to see back home — they’re going to see tax relief. Hardworking Americans are going to have more money in their pocket. In my district alone, $1600 are going to be kept in their pocket instead of taken by Washington, D.C. That’s good — that’s their money.”
