House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) led this morning’s House Republican Leadership press conference to highlight how House Republicans continue to deliver on the issues that matter to the American people, including the economy and infrastructure. Thanks to Republican pro-growth policies, like regulatory relief and tax reform, our economy is booming.

“We continue to hear great news on our economy. The New York Times actually said that they had run out of words to describe how good the job numbers are. That pretty much says it all. Unemployment stands at a 50-year low — 3.8 percent. Unemployment rates are the lowest they’ve ever been for black Americans. We’ve hit one million jobs created since the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act was enacted into law.
“We have more jobs open today than people that are unemployed and looking for jobs.
“I was home just a few days ago. One family shared with me a story — the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act has meant $400 per month in their take-home pay. They have a child with disabilities. The uncertainty that creates as far as expenses — this [tax cut] is making a big difference! That is an additional $4800 each year. The security and confidence that this is providing American families is what we were after.
“We’re focusing on other issues that they care about, whether it’s solutions to keep our neighborhoods safe from gang violence, continued efforts to strengthen and improve our infrastructure…we are working on funding priorities for our veterans, unleashing our energy potential, and supporting our Capitol Police officers, too.
“As we advance the Water Resources Development Act, I’m pleased today that Congressman Rob Woodall could join us. He’s on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and he’s been a key person as we’re leading this effort to rebuild our nation’s waterways. It’s so important to driving American commerce and jobs.”
