This morning, House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) led the weekly House Republican Leadership press conference to discuss important votes this week on the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act and the NDAA. She also invited Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA), Chair of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces, to join and discuss the urgent need for improving military readiness.
Chair McMorris Rodgers and Rep. Wittman recently held a “Faces of Tax Reform” roundtable in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where they heard directly from families, workers, and small business owners about what tax reform would mean for them. Their request was the same as the request of the 170,000 Americans represented in the boxes of petitions along the wall: tax reform now.

Key quotes from the Chair’s remarks:
“We have two major votes this week that are very important to people all across this country. One is providing relief — relief from the tax burden. We’re addressing tax reform for the first time in 31 years. The second is a vote to rebuild our military. To be a diplomatic power, you must be a military power. And to be a military power, you must be an economic power. These two votes…will mean a brighter, safer future for all Americans.”
“Our plan [for tax reform] was written with hardworking men and women in mind…we want to get this legislation on the President’s desk as soon as possible. You may have noticed the boxes around us. These are petitions…[170,000] individuals and small business owners from across the country who have signed this petition in support of us taking important action.”
“There’s a lot going on, but at the end of the day, this is about us making sure that our men and women in uniform have the support that they need to protect our country and we’re also fulfilling a promise to provide tax relief to every person.”
