Roundup: A tax code that puts America first

Communications • October 11, 2017

Our vision for tax reform is straightforward: We’re focused on more jobs, fairer taxes, and bigger paychecks.

We want bold reforms that will grow local businesses, expand our economy — and most importantly, improve lives.

We want a tax code that encourages American job creators to hire Americans and keep their businesses here at home.

And we want a tax code so simple you can file your taxes on a post card.

Every day, House Republicans take to social media and the airwaves to champion our vision and the unified framework. For more, visit FairandSimple.gop. And see below for some of the latest from our members:

Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) in the Record Spotlight: It’s now or never for tax relief

Right now, we are faced with a once in a generation opportunity to provide tax relief for all Americans, and I believe it’s the responsibility of Congress to seize it. Over the past several years, Congressional leaders have been building the foundation for major tax reform — and now the country has elected a president who has made tax reform a top priority of his own.

We are developing a plan that will put money back in the pockets of millions of Americans who’ve earned it. We need a tax code that is simple, fair and easy for anyone to understand. Our plan makes the act of doing your taxes as simple as filling out a document the size of a postcard. The best part? You won’t need to hire a professional. We need a tax code that provides relief and a pay raise for middle income families. Our tax reform plan means tax cuts for Americans and more money directly into your wallet where you can decide how to spend it.

Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI):

Our nation’s tax code hasn’t been overhauled since 1986. It’s overly complex, sorely outdated, and frankly it’s making it more difficult for families in West Michigan to achieve the American Dream.

To remedy this, Republicans in Congress and the Trump Administration recently unveiled a unified framework for tax reform that focuses on growing the economy and helping families keep more of their hard earned money.

This framework helps middle class families by nearly doubling the standard deduction and enhancing the child tax credit, while retaining important deductions such as mortgage interest and charitable donations.
