Rep. Trott and Chairman Royce: A Better Way for America to lead

Terrorist attacks around the globe are becoming far too common.

And as our allies look to America for leadership, House Republicans are offering a plan to put our country, and the world, onto a more stable, safe, and secure path.

Our plan, A Better Way to Keep Us Safe and Free, includes more than 60 specific ideas to protect the American people, and keep the peace in a dangerous world.

Instead of making it up along the way, we have set out a clear strategy to defeat ISIS and protect our homeland.

Today, at a press conference on Capitol Hill, Reps. Ed Royce (R-CA) and Dave Trott (R-MI) joined House Republican Leadership to discuss our plan. These two members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee condemned the President’s negligent actions in paying a $1.7 billion ransom to the largest state sponsor of terror in the world, Iran. Ed Royce, Chairman of the committee said, “Iran is the number one state sponsor of terrorism and transferring to Iran palettes of untraceable cash is terrible policy and it puts Americans at risk.”

The Chairman’s right. The United States does not negotiate with terrorists. This isn’t just a mantra; it’s a promise to the American people. It’s a promise that has saved countless American lives.

Said Rep. Trott, “I know that families in my districts and districts around the county have deep concerns regarding America’s national security and president Obama’s foreign policy….I believe it’s important for Americans to know that House Republicans are offering a better way to keep America safe. Our plan offers specific ideas to defeat ISIS, confront Iran’s dangerous acts, and promote freedom around the world.”

Are we really better off paying cash ransoms to Iran?  We think there’s a #BetterWay for America to lead, and this week, we’ll vote on Chairman Royce’s legislation to begin to put us back on track. As he puts it, “This cannot happen again and that is why my bill that we’re going to vote on, that the House will vote on this week, is very straight forward: it does not allow cash payments to Iran for any reason.”
