Rep. Jackie Walorski: We are talking about the worst of the worst

Yesterday, the President proposed a plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.  This plan not only puts American citizens in danger– it’s against the law.  His proposal further illustrates he is more concerned with leaving behind a legacy than protecting our homeland from unnecessary dangers.

This morning, Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) reacted to the President’s plan and shared the dangers  this decision poses to our country.

“I’m on the House Armed Services  and I’ve been involved in the issue of Gitmo for several years now,” Rep. Walorski said during a press conference on Capitol Hill.  “I can tell you that when we’re talking about Gitmo, we are talking about the worst of the worst people and terrorists in the entire world. ”

On the detainees currently held at GTMO, Walorski said, “We’re not talking about trying to move people to the United States prison system that are low-lying criminals or small-offense terrorists… these are the worst of the worst including  Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who was the mastermind behind 9/11. ”

“I would again say– on behalf of the folks in my district in Northern Indiana and I think most of the Americans that are looking at this from a real common-sense perspective– this was nothing but a political toss across the field to see exactly what the response was going to be.. ” and I think the response from a bipartisan Congress in the House anyway, has been “no way”.  said Rep. Walorski.  “We want no part of this whatsoever. [It’s a] bad judgement call. …There’s lots of answers from our side–concrete answers– why this is a bad plan from the President.”
