Washington, D.C. – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 3388, the SELF DRIVE Act. Introduced by Rep. Bob Latte (R-OH), this legislation creates a clear path for the safe testing, development and deployment of self-driving cars in the U.S.
“Self-driving cars are the future that will make driving more accessible, affordable, and available for all. They have the ability to fundamentally change our lives for the better by improving mobility for people of all ages and walks of life,” said Chair McMorris Rodgers. “With more than 30,000 motor vehicle fatalities occurring in the U.S. every year, I believe self-driving cars can make great strides in improving traffic safety and saving lives. I’m excited for what the future has in store, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House to promote technologies that improve the lives of all Americans. Thanks to Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) for putting forward legislation that celebrates the innovation and excitement that this technology will bring.”
