Washington, D.C. – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1843, the Clyde-Hirsch-Sowers RESPECT Act. Introduced by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL), this legislation protects small business owners from IRS abuse and helps ensure their assets are not wrongly seized under civil asset forfeiture policies

“Too often, the IRS oversteps its authority and seizes people’s personal property before they’ve even been convicted of a crime. This guilty-before-being-proven-innocent way of operating needs to stop, which is why I’m pleased to see the RESPECT Act pass the House. Thank you to Rep. Peter Roskam for spearheading this legislation that protects small business owners from IRS overreach.”
