Washington, D.C. – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House Ways and Means Committee passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act out of the Committee and after the U.S. Senate introduced its bill to reform our broken tax code.

“We have a historic opportunity to create more jobs, fairer taxes, and bigger paychecks for all hardworking Americans and their families. This moment is about them — about helping our middle class families reach their full potential,” said McMorris Rodgers.

“With the House Ways and Means Committee passing our historic Tax Cuts and Jobs Act today, we are that much closer to delivering tax relief to middle class Americans all over our country.

“I’m also pleased to see my legislation, the ABLE Financial Planning Act, included in the bill that passed today out of Ways and Means. This means that people who have been saving for their child’s college tuition can rollover that saved money into a savings account specifically created for an individual with disabilities. We want everyone to have the opportunity to reach their full potential, and that includes the ability to plan and save for the future.

“I’m also encouraged to see the Senate introduce a bill that delivers tax relief to all Americans. The House and Senate are working hard to put a tax reform bill on the President’s desk by Christmas. Americans deserve a tax code that rewards hard work, respects and protects taxpayer dollars, and encourages innovation and creativity. This is about putting the people back at the center of our government, and the best way to create opportunities for everyone in this country is by reforming our tax code.”

NOTE: Chair McMorris Rodgers has crisscrossed the country holding round table discussions with local families, workers, and small business owners on tax reform. She’s heard from minority entrepreneurs, families in North Carolina, workers in Michigan, small business owners in Virginia, and locals in Pennsylvania.

Upon the introduction of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act last week in the House, the Chair said, “Our plan is pro-family and it’s pro-economic growth.”
