WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed the Blocking Regulatory Interference from Closing Kilns (BRICK) Act (H.R. 1917), sponsored by Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH), and the Satisfying Energy Needs and Saving the Environment (SENSE) Act (H.R. 1119), sponsored by Rep. Keith Rothfus (R-PA).
“This week, the People’s House took action to protect more American brick and coal jobs. The BRICK Act will give brickmakers additional time to comply with the EPA’s overzealous Brick MACT rule, which is currently under judicial review. This legislation, championed by Rep. Bill Johnson, protects 7,000 jobs nationwide. In addition, the SENSE Act provides targeted regulatory relief to coal refuse-to-energy facilities, which recycle the waste product of coal mining to generate affordable, reliable electricity. Rep. Rothfus’s solution will ensure that these facilities can keep their doors open and continue to support the 5,000 jobs connected to this industry.”
