Washington – Following President Donald Trump’s decision to end the summit with Kim Jong-un and his refusal to accept a bad deal with North Korea, House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) issued this statement:
“President Trump is displaying leadership and courage by refusing to make a deal with Pyongyang that is not in America’s best interest.
“Unlike President Obama, who cut a dangerous and unverifiable deal that emboldened the rogue regime in Iran, President Trump has refused to accept terms that would provide benefits to North Korea without true progress towards denuclearization. For too many years, administrations of both parties have delivered concessions to North Korea in return for empty gestures, while the regime in Pyongyang has made steady progress in developing and expanding their nuclear weapons capability. Today, President Trump ended that cycle and showed his resolve to protect our nation by refusing to provide sanctions relief in exchange for more false promises.”
