Conference Chair Cheney Statement On Retirement Of Rep. Mike Conaway

Washington, D.C. – House GOP Conference Chair and Congresswoman Liz Cheney (WY-AL) issued the following statement after Rep. Mike Conaway (TX-11) announced today that he would be retiring following the completion of his current term:

“Mike Conaway has been a fighter for the Texans he proudly serves, and he has been an asset for our Conference. His work on the Agriculture Committee led to marked improvements for farmers, ranchers, and rural communities, and the determination he showed in shepherding the Farm Bill in 2018 will be a lasting part of his legacy. He also exercised seriousness and sound judgment during his service on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, particularly when he led the investigation related to Russia’s interference in our elections.”

“It’s been an honor to work with him and fight for our shared conservative values that lift up Americans in all communities, particularly those in rural areas that we’re both privileged to represent. While I’m confident that the 11th congressional district in Texas will continue to have a strong voice that fights on their behalf, I will miss serving with Mike, and our Conference will miss his resolve and level-headed leadership.”
