People’s House Condemns ISIS & Assad Crimes Against Humanity

The Obama administration has less than 24 hours to decide whether or not it will declare the atrocities being committed by ISIS and Syrian President Bashar Al Assad are genocide.

Both ISIS and Assad are responsible for barbaric acts, including the targeting and killing of religious and ethnic groups. While the world waits for the administration’s decision, the People’s House stood together to call these acts out for what they are: genocide and crimes against humanity.

ISIS is attempting to systematically exterminate entire groups of people simply because of their faith tradition,” Rep. Fortenberry, sponsor of H. Con. Res. 75, said recently in a press conference on Capitol Hill. “It is a grave injustice.  It is an assault on human dignity. It is an attack on the principles of civilization itself. …The facts are clear.  This is a genocide.

Rep. Smith, Chairman of the Human Rights Subcommittee who sponsored H. Con. Res. 121, went on to say, “The two [resolutions] go hand in glove…Article 6 of the genocide convention makes clear that where there is a genocide, there also needs to be prosecutions of those who commit genocide. …individuals on all sides, from Assad, who has committed horrific acts of brutality with his barrel bombs, his weapons of mass destruction, and all of the other terrible things that he has done; and ISIS…which has targeted Christians.”
