The last major reform to the tax code happened the same year The Oprah Winfrey Show debuted. That’s right, Oprah Winfrey first appeared on her iconic talk show the same year Ronald Reagan signed The Tax Reform Act of 1986. The Oprah Winfrey Show lives on in the history books and hearts of millions, while the tax code just makes us all miserable.

Over the past several years, the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Senate Finance Committee worked to examine, develop and edit various tax reform proposals.
