Small Business Owners Across America Share How House Republicans Are Delivering Tax Relief with Working Families Tax Cuts

WASHINGTON - House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) highlighted how the Working Families Tax Cuts are helping small businesses across the country grow, invest, and keep more money in their communities.

“Across America, hardworking families and small businesses are seeing the results of policies that actually put them first,” Chairwoman Lisa McClain said. “We passed tax relief that helps small business owners invest with confidence and put more of their hard-earned money where it belongs: in their businesses, employees, and communities. When Democrats voted against tax relief, Republicans took action and delivered real support to everyday Americans across this country.”

As families and employers feel the effects of lower taxes and pro-growth reforms, small business owners are sharing firsthand how Republican policies are making a tangible difference on Main Streets across America:

Joe Kimray, owner of B&W Hardware in Wake Forest, NC said: “The Working Families Tax Cuts has made a real difference. This January, our sales were up 18% compared to last year, which tells me people have a little more breathing room and they’re spending it right here in our community. On the business side, the return of 100% bonus depreciation helped us invest back into the store. We recently raised wages because when our business does well, we want our people to do well, too.”

Kimray says stronger sales have helped the business reinvest in the store, including new shelving purchases and increased wages for employees, including a recent $2.50 hourly raise for a high school student worker.

Darcy Michalek, owner of Michalek Enterprises in Omaha, NE said: “We have seen a great benefit from the Working Families Tax Cut because 90% of our employees are tipped employees and the benefit there has been great for them. We’re just thrilled and so thankful that we’re able to see those tax cuts”

Darcy Michalek, a constituent of Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), owns five Nebraska businesses, including several Subway franchise locations and Garbo’s Salon and Spa. Nebraska has seen new state-level laws requiring higher minimum wage and paid leave which increases her costs, but she’s been able to offset those with savings from the Working Families Tax Cuts.

Danny Reynolds, owner of Stephenson’s of Elkhart in Indiana said: “We’ve been in hiring mode at Stephenson’s and have added two new employees since the start of the year, which is always a great sign for our business. Customers are seeing larger returns and deciding to spend a bit more on important moments like weddings and proms. For us, that kind of confidence makes a big difference. That helps us grow, hire and continue serving our community the same way we have for generations.”

Danny Reynolds, a constituent of Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-IN), owns Stephenson’s of Elkhart, a women’s fashion boutique that has operated on Elkhart’s Main Street for nearly 100 years and remains a fixture in the local community.

Republicans delivered tax relief that gives Main Street businesses the certainty and flexibility to grow, invest, and create jobs while cutting back on burdensome Washington red tape. When small businesses can succeed and workers keep more of what they earn, Americans have a better shot at getting ahead.

Chairwoman McClain Blasts Democrats for Prioritizing Criminal Illegal Aliens Over American Safety in DHS Fight

WASHINGTON – House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain joined House Republican leadership to blast Democrats for prioritizing violent criminal illegal aliens over the safety of American citizens in their Department of Homeland Security funding demands, calling the shutdown a deliberate choice that puts communities at risk.

As prepared for delivery:

I’m going to say this as clearly as I possibly can: this shutdown is a choice Democrats made.

It is a conscious decision by Democrats to put violent illegal criminals ahead of the safety and security of the American people.

Let’s talk about what was happening before this shutdown.

Law enforcement officers were doing their sworn duty — arresting and deporting dangerous individuals who never should have been in this country in the first place. We’re talking about child molesters. Rapists. Murderers.

People who threaten the lives of everyday Americans! People who threaten our families! People who threaten the safety of our children!

And that’s not some exaggeration. These are the convictions of the violent, illegal criminals who were arrested in just my home state of Michigan.

And in Chicago, my heart breaks for Sheridan Gorman’s family. She was just 18 years old and had her whole life in front of her.

Sadly, her parents will never see her walk the stage and graduate from Loyola University Chicago.

All because Democrats flooded our country with violent illegal aliens, like the Venezuelan who murdered Sheridan. He was released into our country by the Biden administration, arrested for shoplifting, then released AGAIN by the Biden administration.

As a mother, it infuriates me to see Democrats refusing to stand with the heroic officers taking these criminals off the streets. Instead, Democrats are back to their old chant: DEFUND THE POLICE.

Here’s the thing though: This time, it’s not just a slogan. It’s a shutdown of our homeland security.

And the consequences are real.

Just look at the numerous terrorist attacks that have happened on American soil in the last few weeks. Attacks by violent terrorists on our homeland that have taken the lives of innocent Americans.

Of course, while all of this is happening, Republicans have done the responsible thing.

We have voted — again and again — to fully fund our homeland security.

And we’re going to do it again this week with a clean DHS funding bill.

And like last week and the week before, I expect that nearly every single Democrat will vote to defund law enforcement.

Every single one of them will vote to expose the American people to threats of terrorism.

They will be voting to make your communities less safe. They will vote to risk the lives of the American people.

That is what they will vote for!

I will close by saying this: Thank you President Trump for doing what Democrats refuse to do. Thank you for using every resource at your disposal to keep Americans safe.

To Democrats:

FUND homeland security.

FUND our law enforcement.

And get on board with deporting violent illegal aliens that threaten the safety of every man, woman, and child across our country.

House Republicans Stand for Homeland Security while Democrats Defend Violent Illegals

WASHINGTON — House Republicans are voicing their support of H. Res. 1128, a resolution led by Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Pa.) expressing the House’s support for the Department of Homeland Security, calling for immediate full funding, and backing the personnel who have continued serving through the shutdown.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement:

“It is insulting to the American people that just days after a young woman was murdered by a violent illegal immigrant, Democrats refuse to back the law enforcement officers fighting to take dangerous criminals like that off our streets,” Chairwoman McClain said. “You cannot starve homeland security, weaken immigration enforcement, and then pretend you care about public safety.”

Democrats have dragged out a shutdown that strains operations and helps fuel the lawless agenda they have pushed for years — Republicans are standing with the people who defend the homeland and demanding they have the resources to do the job right.

House Republicans Move to Fund Homeland Security and Pay Homeland Defenders

WASHINGTON - House Republicans are advancing H.R. 8029, the Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act of 2026, legislation led by Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.) to reopen and fully fund the Department of Homeland Security and deliver backpay to those on the frontline who have been working without pay during the Democrats’ shutdown.

After weeks of disruption and growing strain on frontline operations, the legislation would restore certainty for the personnel Americans rely on every day to secure the border, protect airports, defend critical infrastructure, and respond to threats at home and abroad.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement:

“Once again, Democrats have put the desires of violent illegal aliens above the needs of the American people,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Since Democrats first defunded our homeland security, a terrorist with a ‘Property of Allah’ sweatshirt committed a mass shooting, travelers have been forced to stand in three- and four-hour lines to go through TSA security, and a teen was killed by an illegal immigrant in Chicago. Enough is enough. Get your priorities straight. Fund our national security. And pay our homeland defenders.”

This is what happens when Democrats prioritize illegal immigrants over public safety. Their refusal to act has created real gaps in our homeland security and put Americans at unnecessary risk, all while prioritizing policies that protect those here illegally. House Republicans are stepping in to restore order and make clear that public safety comes first.

House Republicans Protect Hunters, Anglers, and Outdoorsmen from Federal Overreach

WASHINGTON—Today, House Republicans advanced the Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act, legislation led by Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.) to ensure sportsmen can continue using traditional ammunition and fishing tackle on federal lands unless a refuge-specific scientific justification exists for restrictions.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Wittman released the following statements:

“House Republicans are standing up for the hunters and anglers who help sustain our outdoor heritage and keep conservation strong across this country,” Chairwoman McClain said. “Democrats and far-left activists have spent years trying to push sportsmen out of the picture with more mandates, more restrictions, and more Washington control. This legislation protects the outdoor traditions that matter to families across America.”

“As a lifelong hunter and recreational fisherman, I understand the importance of balancing conservation with preserving access for sportsmen,” Rep. Wittman said. “The Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act of 2025 achieves that balance by ensuring future generations of hunters and anglers can continue to participate in these activities while promoting responsible stewardship. By preventing executive overreach in the future, this legislation is critical to preserving access for sportsmen and women who rely on traditional lead fishing tackle and ammunition, and it reinforces the use of sound science in decision-making. I am pleased that the House has passed this legislation, and I look forward to seeing it advance to the Senate.”

The Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act would prohibit the Departments of Interior and Agriculture from banning the use of lead ammunition or tackle on federal lands and waters open to hunting and fishing, unless a restriction is supported by site-specific evidence showing lead is primarily causing a wildlife decline in that area and the restriction is consistent with state law or applicable regulations.

House Republicans Vote to Deport Foreign Fraudsters Who Rip Off American Taxpayers

WASHINGTON—House Republicans today passed the Deporting Fraudsters Act, legislation led by Rep. David Taylor (R-Ohio) to crack down on criminal illegal aliens who defraud the United States government or unlawfully collect public benefits.

The legislation is part of House Republicans’ broader effort to restore integrity to the immigration system and make clear that individuals who come here and exploit public programs or steal from the American people will face consequences.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Taylor released the following statements:

“American taxpayers are not an ATM for criminal aliens. If you come to this country to scam our social safety nets and steal from hardworking families, you shouldn’t get a court date, you should get a one-way ticket out,” Chairwoman McClain said. “This bill makes it crystal clear: defraud the American people and you’re gone. House Republicans are putting an end to the fraud, the abuse, and the war on taxpayers.”

“It’s a no-brainer – if an illegal alien defrauds the United States or steals benefits from our nation’s most vulnerable, they should be permanently removed from our country,” Rep. Taylor said. “Americans work too hard to have their tax dollars and benefits stolen by illegal aliens who shouldn’t be here in the first place. My Deporting Fraudsters Act will bolster the Trump Administration’s efforts to do just that, and today I’m proud to see it take a major step toward becoming law.”

The Deporting Fraudsters Act of 2026 amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to make aliens inadmissible and deportable if they are convicted of fraud-related offenses or admit to fraud.

Chairwoman McClain to Democrats: Put the Political Games Aside and Fund our Homeland Security

As prepared for delivery:

I say something very, very clearly to every single Democrat watching today: Enough is enough. Put the political games aside and fund our homeland security.

Last week, just outside my district, an antisemitic driver with an explosives-filled vehicle plowed into Temple Israel Synagogue. The building was set ablaze while dozens of little kids were inside.

Hours earlier, an ISIS supporter opened fire at Old Dominion University.

Days before that, a man wearing a sweatshirt that read “Property of Allah” killed two people and wounded fourteen.

This is not a game. End the shutdown. Fund our homeland security now.

Despite this urgency, however, almost every single Democrat in this town has voted to defund our homeland security. Why? Because they’d rather protect violent illegal criminals than protect the American people.

Frankly, I’m sick of it and the American people are too.

In addition to fighting for an end to this shutdown, House Republicans will take up legislation this week to make sure that foreign nationals who commit fraud can be deported and permanently barred from exploiting taxpayers by receiving immigration benefits.

And if you think that’s unnecessary, let me introduce you to a few people.

This is a man here illegally from Cuba who was arrested in Big Rapids, Michigan for credit card fraud.

This is a man arrested in Carson City, Michigan for fraud and homicide. I think we can all agree he shouldn’t be allowed to remain in the country.

Another individual in Port Huron arrested for fraud.

A woman in Sandusky, Michigan also arrested for fraud.

And that’s just in my home state of Michigan. I could keep going without even leaving the state let alone getting into what’s happening in places like Whip Emmer’s state of Minnesota.

Despite what the liberal media wants you to believe, these are the people law enforcement is targeting and holding accountable.

And these are exactly the people Republicans are making sure will never — and I repeat, never — be welcome back here.

The United States is the most generous nation in the world. But generosity should never be mistaken for weakness.

When people exploit our systems, when they steal from programs meant to help vulnerable Americans, when they commit fraud against our families, they undermine the trust that holds our programs and institutions together.

And they take resources away from the Americans who actually need them.

Let me put it simply: the Biden administration let a lot of bad people into this country. Terrorists. Fraudsters. Violent criminals.

And now Democrats are playing political games to protect the bad guys instead of protecting American citizens.

That needs to end. Now.

Fund our homeland security. Deport violent criminals. Keep foreign fraudsters out of our country.

These are common-sense principles nearly every American supports.

It’s time Democrats in Washington started supporting them too.

From Servers to First Responders: Ten Floridians Share How the Working Families Tax Cuts Are Helping

DORAL, FL – House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain joined Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, Dean of the Florida Delegation, to host a roundtable with working moms, small business owners, and tax professionals to discuss how the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering real relief for families and workers during the 2026 tax season.

“Across the country, we’re seeing the real people who benefit from these policies – hardworking Americans keeping more of what they earn,” Chairwoman Lisa McClain said. “In Miami, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart has been a steady leader, fighting to put money back where it belongs: in the pockets of families, small businesses, and workers. It’s been extremely helpful to hear directly from Congressman Diaz-Balart’s constituents about how these tax cuts are helping their businesses grow, their families thrive, and their communities succeed.”

“I’m grateful to be joined by House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain, who has been a strong leader in ensuring Americans across our country understand and benefit from the many tax relief provisions included in the Working Families Tax Cuts,” Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart said. “I am especially pleased to welcome her to Sergio’s restaurant in Doral, in Florida’s 26th Congressional District, where we had the opportunity to hear directly from my constituents — from working parents, entrepreneurs, UBER and DoorDash drivers, and local tax professionals — about how these policies are making a difference during tax season. These hardworking Americans are already seeing the benefits of the tax relief passed last year by House Republicans and signed into law by President Trump.”

During the roundtable, ten Floridians shared how the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering tangible benefits for their families, businesses, and communities.

NO TAX ON TIPS

Bob Mitchell, Uber Driver said: “I've been doing Uber for 11 years…And I have to say, with the new tax cuts and everything and the savings on tips, it's been amazing. Just on my IRS, my income tax I got back this year, I've saved over 20% more than last year. … What's so impressive about this whole thing, the bill, it wasn't like you had touched on before—it doesn't affect you guys. It doesn't affect the President…It affects us. The working people, the people who day in and day out go out there. And I can tell you this, people I have picked up since this has all gone into effect, those in the service industry, bartenders and servers, they've also said they appreciate so much what the government has done with this bill. And they feel it, they've seen a difference, too, on their taxes.”

Watch his full testimony HERE.

Nikki Trevino, Florida DoorDash Driver said: “In 2020, I had a surgery—a surgery that resulted in a permanent disability. Many traditional jobs aren't possible for me anymore. Dashing has truly been a godsend, and it's one of the few types of work I can do because I'm able to choose when I work...I know that being able to keep more of my hard-earned tips is going to make a meaningful impact. Those savings will go directly toward helping my 17-year-old daughter who is preparing to start college, and any parent knows every extra dollar matters. No Tax on Tips recognizes the hard work of people like me—people who earn tips not as a bonus, but as essential income.”
Ilenai Rodríguez, Waitress said: “It’s extra savings that comes back to us. Most of our income comes from tips…so not having to pay taxes on those tips means important savings at the end of the year.”
NO TAX ON OVERTIME

Chief Matthew Castillo, City of Miami Springs Police, said: “Public safety relies heavily on three important factors: one is recruitment, two is morale, and three is retention, which rely heavily as far as my job is concerned. And the No Tax on Overtime provision directly impacts these three aspects. In policing, overtime isn't really a luxury. Sometimes it's necessary to keep our community safe. These officers working those extra hours, unfortunately, a lot of their pay disappears due to taxes, and the rate goes up and you get put in a higher tax bracket. This provision actually ensures that our officers are able to take home more of their pay so they could better provide for their families.”

Lt. Albert Vargas, City of Miami Springs Police, said: “When it comes to overtime in law enforcement, a lot of times it's not optional. It's mandatory. We have manpower shortages and we have a lot of different things going on that the overtime is mandatory…These officers that work this overtime, they're able to keep some of that money for their family. We think it's a huge benefit for our department and all the first responders…we appreciate the support that Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart and the House Republicans give us on a daily basis.”
Stephen G. Bussé, Metro-Dade Firefighter, said: “In our line of work, overtime is not a choice; it is a necessity. No matter what happens when that bell goes off, there needs to be a professional firefighter in that seat running that call and answering the community. Thanks to this federal tax relief for overtime, the extra hours we have been putting in away from our families at the fire or police station are finally being respected. This was actually the first year that I have seen the largest tax refund in my entire career.”
CHILD TAX CREDIT EXPANSION, TRUMP ACCOUNTS, STANDARD DEDUCTION

Adriana McLamb, Marketing Director of the Independent Women’s Forum, said: “I feel the effects with a growing boy who I feel every single day I have to buy new-sized diapers, new-sized shoes, and more food. He eats more than the FIU football team, it feels like. Those costs grow as they get older… with more money in my pocket, I'm able to do what I can for my son and my growing family. But it's not just that portion also; it's the expansion of 529 and the standard deduction. All of those are really felt as a new mom.”
PRO-GROWTH BUSINESS PROVISIONS

Carlos Gazitua, CEO of Sergio’s Restaurants, said: “This is going to be our first full year of the tax policy, and we already opened up a restaurant, took the bonus depreciation, and hired over 60 employees this year. We already have plans for the next project that is going to hire another 15 people. We're spending over $3 million already in six or seven months… the bonus depreciation and business tax deductions give small business owners the confidence to invest. That confidence has a trickle effect; we have to hire more employees, and when we hire more employees, we have to pay more because we have to compete against other small businesses. That's the way it works in our local economy. The more money that our hardworking servers keep from their taxes and their tips, the more they get to put that money into their families.”
Andrei Stern, Owner at SuViche Hospitality, said: “In our experience, it has really helped our team with retention. It has helped our team have more money in their pockets, which means they have more money to spend in local businesses and grow the economy. It has also let them have more time with their families. We have had team members who used to have multiple jobs, and because of the savings they have from no tax on tips and no tax on overtime, they can now have one job and spend more time at home.”
Chairwoman McClain, Chairman Crawford, and House GOP Veterans Stand with Troops, Call on Democrats to Fully Fund Homeland Security

WASHINGTON — House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford, joined by veteran members of the House GOP, held a press conference yesterday honoring America’s service members and highlighting the urgent need for Congress to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security.

House GOP veterans included Representatives Rick Crawford, Gabe Evans, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Zach Nunn, Nick LaLota, Jen Kiggans, Scott Fitzgerald, Scott Franklin, William Timmons, and Mike Bost.

Chairwoman McClain: “Nearly every Democrat voted against fully funding America’s homeland security. Under the Biden administration, over 380 individuals on the terrorist watch list crossed our southern border illegally, and around 100 were released into the United States. And yet, Democrats are still refusing to fully fund the men and women who protect our homeland — our Coast Guard, TSA agents, and every professional keeping terrorists out of our country. This is not just irresponsible; it is shameful.” Watch her full remarks here.
Chairwoman McClain: Democrats Continue Putting Violent Criminals Over American Security

WASHINGTON—House Republican Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement after Democrats voted to keep the Department of Homeland Security shut down in the middle of an international conflict with Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terror:

“Democrats just voted to put violent illegal aliens ahead of the safety of the American people. That is undeniably reckless,” Chairwoman McClain said. “After September 11, we created a department dedicated to stopping terrorists before they strike our homeland. At this moment in history, Democrats have chosen to shut it down for political theater. You don’t play games with America’s security. It’s time for Democrats to drop the politics, fully fund our homeland security and start putting the safety of the American people first.”
