Congressman Ryan A. Costello was elected to serve the people of the Sixth District of Pennsylvania in November of 2014. As a freshman member he will serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs in the 114th Congress.
Ryan is a life-long resident of Chester County, where he lives with his wife Christine and their one year old son, Ryan Jr. He is a graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown, earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Ursinus College, and his J.D. from the Villanova School of Law.
The son of two Pennsylvania public school teachers, he has always placed a high value on building a strong educational system for future generations. His parents instilled in him a strong sense of community involvement and a commitment to public service, which led him to his elected role as a member of the East Vincent Township Board of Supervisors. He eventually was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Chairman. Additionally, he has served in an elected position as Recorder of Deeds for Chester County.
In 2011, the voters elected Ryan to the Chester County Board of Commissioners. He quickly earned the respect of his colleagues on the bipartisan board who elected him to serve as Chairman. During his tenure as a County Commissioner, he successfully balanced budgets, helped to cut government spending, and reduce the size of county government, all the while continuing to make significant investments to preserve farmland and open space and modernizing the County 911 system and Public Safety Training Facility. Under his leadership, Chester County maintained one of the lowest tax rates in southeastern Pennsylvania, and earned the highest possible bond rating from independent agencies for its smart fiscal management of taxpayer dollars.
Ryan has also volunteered his time with many organizations in southeastern Pennsylvania, including: Chester County Open Space Advisory Council, the Pottstown Police Athletic League, the Schuylkill River Heritage Center, and the Phoenixville Main Street Community Development Corporation.
Additionally, Ryan is a practicing land use and real estate attorney at the Phoenixville firm of O’Donnell, Weiss & Mattei, P.C., He was recently named a “Rising Star” by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Magazine.
