McMorris Rodgers Votes for Chairman Royce’s Bill to Prevent Future Ransom Payments to Iran

House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed the Prohibiting Future Ransom Payments to Iran Act (H.R. 5931). Introduced by Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the bill prohibits the U.S. Government from making any cash payments to the Government of Iran until the President certifies Iran is not a money laundering concern or a state sponsor of terrorism.

“America does not negotiate with terrorists,” said McMorris Rodgers. “By paying a ransom to Iran, President Obama rewarded the Iranian regime for its aggressive behavior, and made Americans and our our allies more susceptible to Iranian hostility. This administration has failed to hold Iran accountable for its support of terrorism, and now, for holding Americans hostage.  I am grateful for Chairman Royce’s work on this legislation, and for his leadership as House Republicans offer a Better Way to keep the American people safe and free.”
