McMorris Rodgers: “The House Takes the Lead Again to Protect Students Across This Country”

WASHINGTON – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement today after the House passed the Senate Amendment to H.R. 1911, the Bipartisan Student Loan Certainty Act of 2013 (originally passed by the House as the Smarter Solutions for Students Act):

“Today the House took the lead again to protect students across the country. After a month of political bickering among Senate Democrats – and after their failure to vote on a solution before the July 1 deadline – we voted on final passage of legislation the House passed months ago. It provides a long-term solution to make it easier for students to pay for college and takes politics out of students’ wallets. As the first in my family to have graduated from college – and as someone who is still paying off my student loans – I know firsthand the challenges students face when it comes to paying for school. And it wasn’t fair that students were paying the price for Washington Democrats’ inaction. We are pleased the Senate finally took action to pass a solution for student loans, and we urge the President to put America’s students before Washington politics and swiftly sign this bill into law.”
