WASHINGTON – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) today issued the following statement on the occasion of President Obama’s second inauguration:
“House Republicans are eager to be responsible partners with the President during his second-term, working together to create new jobs at home and greater security abroad.
“Yet, the President’s eloquent words must be matched with deliberate actions to restore country’s fiscal health. In his Inaugural Address today, he said: “We must make the hard choices to reduce the cost of health care and the size of our deficit. ” Yet, it is almost four years since the Senate passed a budget. In the meantime, spending has raged out of control and America’s debt has ballooned.
“The Senate must act now to turn words into deeds. Senate Democrats must pass a budget putting federal spending on a sustainable path to ensure a successful second term and for the sake of our children and grandchildren.”
