House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed the FY19 National Defense Authorization Act conference report.
“One of the most important functions of the federal government is to provide for the common defense. We can’t do that when we have planes that can’t fly and ships that can’t sail. After years of cuts and decay, House Republicans have led on rebuilding our military to ensure that our servicemen and women have the resources they need to do their jobs: keeping America safe and free. Our country is Better Off Now than it was two years ago, but our work continues. I applaud Armed Services Chair Mac Thornberry (R-TX) for putting together a final bill that will help in our efforts to undo a self-imposed readiness crisis. I encourage the Senate to pass the conference report and a defense appropriations bill to properly fund these important programs and priorities.”
