Washington, D.C. – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 3219, the Make America Secure Appropriations Act. Introduced by Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ), the legislation provides funds for important defense, veterans, and energy-related programs. The legislation also provides resources to strengthen and educate Capitol Police and reinforce their service keeping Members of Congress safe.
“This bill is about keeping Americans safe at home and abroad,” said McMorris Rodgers. “The Make America Secure Appropriations Act prioritizes funds to ensure the United States is properly equipped to deal with security threats, honors our commitment to our nation’s veterans, and invests in our nuclear and energy security. These four appropriations bills are a big step to bringing accountability to spending, and I am thankful to Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ) for working hard to get all 12 funding bills out of committee.”
Note: This package of four security-related bills — colloquially called a “minibus” — appropriates funds for Defense (H.R. 3219), Energy and Water (H.R. 3266), Legislative Branch (H.R. 3162), and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (H.R. 2998).
