“We believe in an open, organic, bottom-up vision for the future. A future that empowers you – not Washington – with more jobs, better wages, and lower costs.”

WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issued the following statement today after President Obama’s State of the Union Address.

“For far too long, the story has been the same. Hardworking Americans tightening their belts because of rising costs at home. Moms and dads working double shifts to pay their bills and make ends meet. America’s college graduates saddled with debt, and struggling – more so than ever before – to find their first job. Tonight, I had hoped President Obama would stand up for them. But instead he stood up for Washington. He stood up for the old, outdated, top-down approach of the past – while we believe in an open, organic, bottom-up vision for the future. A future that empowers you – not Washington – with more jobs, better wages, and lower costs. A future that gives you more opportunities – no matter where you’re from or how much money you make or what challenges you face. That is what I stand for. That is why I am here. And that’s why America’s New Congress will work every day to make your life better. We encourage the President to come to the table, work with Congress, and join us in that effort.”
