WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issued the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 622, the State and Local Sales Tax Deduction Fairness Act, and H.R. 1105, the Death Tax Repeal Act.
“We live in a nation founded on the belief that hard work, determination, and a little sweat can make our dreams take root and grow. Our tax code should not get in the way of achieving the American Dream, which is why today I voted to support family farms by repealing the estate tax, which puts generations of American family-owned businesses at risk. And it’s why today I voted to grow our economy from the bottom up by making state and local sales-tax deductions a permanent part of our federal tax code. In 2012, this important tax deduction saved people in my home state of Washington over $2 billion. I will continue my efforts in Congress to establish a tax code that empowers middle-class families all across the country and ensures we remain a leader in strengthening our local economy and creating new, 21st-century jobs. I commend Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX) for his efforts to protect hardworking American taxpayers.”
