Cathy McMorris Rodgers Remarks as Delivered:
What an important time to be here.
A time to create a better health care future for every person in America.
We just had marathon markups, as our Whip mentioned, in the Energy and Commerce Committee, the Ways and Means Committee.
Our American Health Care Act is moving through the Budget Committee this week.
We’ve got a CBO score that confirms what we’ve been saying all along. That our plan is going to lower premiums, reduce the federal deficit, lower taxes, increase consumer choice, and strengthen Medicaid.
And while I respect the CBO and its role in this process, I think it’s also important to remember that this score does not paint the entire picture.
It doesn’t take into account what Secretary Price will be doing in the coming weeks.
It doesn’t take into account what we will be also passing in further legislation.
We’re working very closely with the Senate and the Administration on this approach.
The American Health Care bill – which you can download for yourself at READTHEBILL.gop – is the product of years of work and thoughtful debate.
If we do nothing. If we stand by – we are accepting the status quo.
Which means higher premiums…mandates…fewer choices — counties that have no plans. One out of three counties currently in America only have one plan offered to them.
Americans deserve a health care system. One that’s going to work for them — and we’re not going to stop until they get it.
